Johnny Ray Jones is terug met het vervolg op "Feet Back In The Door". De nieuwe, langverwachte tweede album “Way Down South” is een all-out celebration van blues, roots & Americana soul, het volgende hoofdstuk in de ontvouwing verhaal van de Godson of Soul, Johnny Ray Jones, zanger en songwriter uit Los Angeles. Johnny Ray Jones groeide op in de bluesmuziekscene in L.A. Sam "Bluzman" Taylor, Johnny's stemcoach en mentor, ruilde hem lessen voor Sam naar zijn shows en opnamesessies rijden. Percy Mayfield's weduwe Tina Mayfield, Johnny's peettante, boekte Johnny Ray zijn eerste wekelijkse blues shows in haar club, Blues Unlimited, in South Central Los Angeles in het begin jaren 80. Johnny Ray heeft opgetreden met Big Joe Turner, John Fogerty & L.A.'s geliefde bluesrockers The Red Devils.

Op dit album brengt Johnny Ray terug het topvliegtalent dat het eerste album zo succesvol maakte. Drummer Tony Braunagel (Phantom Blues Band, Taj Mahal, Bonnie Rai, Robert Cray, Eric Burdon) en gitarist Johnny Lee Schell (Phantom Blues Band, Bonnie Raitt, Taj Mahal) keren terug om hun productie van magie en stellaire muzikant bij te dragen.
